Acceptable use

This policy forms part of the terms of service. It exists for a practical reason as much as a legal one: mail servers are judged by the reputation of their IP addresses, so one person sending spam degrades delivery for everybody else on the platform. We enforce this strictly and without much patience.

You must not

• Send unsolicited bulk or commercial email, in any volume, whether or not it is sent through our servers, if the reply address or the promoted site is hosted here.
• Mail addresses obtained from purchased, scraped, harvested or rented lists. Consent has to be something you can evidence.
• Send phishing, fraud, advance-fee scams, fake invoices, or anything designed to deceive somebody into handing over money or credentials.
• Distribute malware, ransomware, spyware or links to them.
• Forge headers, spoof sending domains you do not control, or otherwise disguise the origin of a message.
• Operate an open relay or open proxy, or relay mail on behalf of third parties.
• Send, store or link to material that is unlawful — including indecent images of children, terrorist material, content that infringes copyright, and content that is defamatory or harassing.
• Harass, threaten or stalk anybody, or use the service to facilitate someone else doing so.
• Attempt to break, overload or probe our infrastructure, or anybody else’s from it.
• Resell mailboxes or provide the service on to third parties without our written agreement.

Fair use

Mailboxes here are for ordinary personal and business correspondence. Bulk sending — newsletters, marketing campaigns, transactional mail from an application — belongs with a dedicated sending provider, not here, and we apply rate limits to keep the platform’s reputation intact. If your legitimate volume is unusually high, talk to us first.

Your account’s security is part of this

A compromised mailbox sending spam causes the same damage as a deliberate one. Use a strong, unique password, and tell us immediately if you suspect your account has been taken over. We may suspend a mailbox that is clearly compromised, to stop the bleeding, and will tell you when we do.

What we do about breaches

Depending on severity we may rate-limit sending, suspend the mailbox, suspend the account, or close it. Where the conduct is ongoing and harmful — active spam runs, phishing, malware, illegal content — we act immediately and explain afterwards, rather than the other way round.

We report indecent images of children to the Internet Watch Foundation and the relevant authorities, and we co-operate with law enforcement where legally required.

Reporting abuse

If you have received spam, phishing or anything else abusive from an address hosted by Mooring, email [email protected]. Include the full message headers if you can — they let us identify the sending mailbox. We aim to acknowledge reports within one working day and act on confirmed abuse immediately.
